El proyecto ALMA

ALMA, the Atacama Large Millimeter Array, is a giant millimeter and submillimeter wave interferometer currently in its design and development phase. It will be comprised of up to 64 12-meter antennas distributed over an area 10 km across, and cover the atmospheric windows from 70 GHz to 950 GHz. At present, ALMA is a collaboration between Europe (Spain has recently joined ALMA) and the U.S., and may soon include Japan.
The talk will present an overview of the project, its current status, and the scientific potential of this new instrument.
