Gravitational Wave Astronomy in the 21st Century

The discovery of the binary pulsar PSR B1913+16 by Hulse and Taylor provided definite evidence of the existence of gravitational waves as predicted by Einstein's General Theory of Relativity. It also contributed to encourage the development of different gravitational wave detectors that was pioneered in the 60s by Joseph Weber. Presently, we have a world-wide network of ground detectors that is expected to achieve the first detections during the decade. At the same time there plans for advanced ground and space detectors. All this projects will cover most astrophysical and cosmological sources of gravitational wave of interest. In this talk I will review the status of the main gravitational-wave detectors/observatories, the sources that they are targeted to, and the science that we expect to do from these observations.
