Abstract:
We report on a spectrophotometric monitoring programme of high luminosity active galactic nuclei (AGN) using the 2.5-m Isaac Newton telescope. Data acquisition and analysis are explained, with emphasis on the care to be taken when comparing data from different epochs. The data are presented for individual objects. A comparison of the Lα, C IV and C III profiles shows that, contrary to what has previously been supposed, the profiles of different lines in a single object are not always the same as each other.
