Rationale

The advent of integral field unit spectrographs (IFUs) has provided us with new tools to study 

star formation in galaxies. 2D mapping of kinematics and morphology, as well as physical 

and chemical properties of the ionized gas and stellar populations of the local Universe galaxies 
is now a widely used analysis technique in the optical and NIR spectroscopy. In addition,
recent results from AO-assisted IFU NIR spectroscopy (e.g. SINFONI @ VLT;  OSIRIS @ Keck) 
have illustrated how the application of this technique to the study of distant galaxies can provide 
precious clues on their formation and evolution. Keeping this in mind, within the Estallidos 
specific seminar series, we have organized this IFUs focused mini-workshop to gather all our 
researchers and collaborators plus guest/associate external experts in a forum to show and discuss
the last achievements on 2D spectroscopy of star formation in galaxies (SFGs). 
Our goal is also to exrchange new ideas about key problems, and possible solutions in the field of 
2D spectroscopy of SFGs.  We hope that this meeting will provide an useful input to all of us for 
an optimum exploitation of present and future IFU instrumentation.
