It is possible that most galaxies host a black hole at the centre, most of the time this being in a relatively quiescent state. The so-called low luminosity Active Galactic Nuclei are characteristic of this phase.

The Sun shows activity across a wide range of size and energy scales. We shall take a journey from the smallest scale events to the largest energy releases in the solar system. The energy release is due to the magnetic fields on the Sun and how they interact.

The growth and evolution of the most massive black holes, and their host galaxies, can be followed from z=7 and even earlier. The critical events that shape this evolution are major mergers, Eddington or super-Eddington accretion, violent star formation, and powerful outflows.

The origin and propagation of cosmic rays (CRs) is one of the most important questions in astroparticle physics nowadays. CRs generated by known sources also serve as background to those putatively generated by more exotic phenomena such as dark matter.

Course on gender analysis in research
2020-06-25 00:00:00 to 2020-07-24 00:00:00
The course on gender analysis in research is organized by the equality commission of the IAA-CSIC, and is set up with the aim of achieving three different objectives. Firstly, it aims to improve the quality of our research by discovering and including the gender/sex perspective.

It is a prototype for the Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) science tools, and can also be used to analyse data from existing gamma-ray telescopes. The tenth meeting of the Gammapy community will take place at the IAA-CSIC, in Granada (Spain) from November 18th to 22th 2019.
Introductory course to astronomy and astrophysics
2020-07-01 00:00:00 to 2020-07-17 00:00:00
Granada
This course has been specifically designed at the request of the Severo Ochoa IAA Scientific Committee. It is specially addressed to IAA staff with other non-specific training in astrophysics (electronic engineers, mechanics, computer scientists, etc.) .
Open Science Droplets
2020-02-25 00:00:00 to 2020-02-29 00:00:00
Granada
There are tools that researchers can use in their daily work to make their research more flexible, efficient, collaborative and open. We will organize demonstration sessions to showcase how these tools can be incorporated into astronomical research. In each session we will show a real-life example on how to use one tool, without entering in the technical details of how it works.
SUNRISE III Technical Meeting
2019-11-11 00:00:00 to 2019-11-15 00:00:00
Granada
The Antarctic stratospheric balloon SUNRISE is a collaboration between Germany, the United States and Spain which carry on board a new technology C/Si C solar telescope (the primary mirror has 1 m aperture and only weights 60 kg). The telescope carries three main post-focal instruments: a spectro-polarimeter, a camera with a universal birefringent filter and a magnetometer.
9th ACS Science Team Meeting
2019-11-14 00:00:00 to 2019-11-15 00:00:00
Granada
The 9th ACS Science Team meeting will be held in the IAA-CSIC on November 14th to 15th 2019. ACS is an instrument which, together with NOMAD, is on board the Trace Gas Orbiter, currently in full operation around Mars.
Comet Interceptor Full Team Meeting
2019-12-02 00:00:00 to 2019-12-03 00:00:00
Granada
The Comet Interceptor mission was selected by ESA in June 2019 to combine this breakthrough in comet discoveries with a compact, agile set of spacecraft that can reveal to us a huge amount about a pristine comet likely entering the inner Solar System for the first time.
1st IAA-CSIC Severo Ochoa School on Statistics, Data Mining and Machine Learning
2019-11-04 00:00:00 to 2019-11-08 00:00:00
Granada
The 1st IAA-CSIC Severo Ochoa School on Statistics, Data Mining and Machine Learning will be held at the Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía, Granada, from Monday 4th to Friday 8th of November. It is an introductory school oriented at students and researchers of all levels.
Seminar on Preparation of Proposals to the European Research Council (ERC)
2019-04-23 00:00:00
Granada
The objective of this Seminar is to train IAA researchers interested in the preparation of a proposal for ERC Programme Calls. The aim is to provide the tools and key aspects, both theoretical and practical, to be taken into account when drafting a competitive proposal. The Seminar is divided into three blocks. In the first one, the main objectives and characteristics will be described.
Key Aspects in the Preparation of a Competitive Proposal MSCA-IF
2019-06-13 00:00:00
Granada
Specialized seminar, aimed mainly at researchers from the Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía (IAA), interested in finding out about the possibilities of participation and financing within the MSCA Programme, and more specifically within the Individual Fellowship H2020-MSCA-IF-2019, of the Horizon 2020 Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (2014-2020).
