The extragalactic astronomy department at the IAA takes advantage of the developments in other astrophysical fields and combine them to study several aspects of galaxies in general. It includes from physics of star formation, the interstellar medium in star clusters and galaxies, the structure and evolution of galaxies taken into account the environment (isolated galaxies, galaxy groups, ...) and large scale structure and cosmology studies. Our research also includes studies about different aspects of Black Holes physics and their effects as central engines in active galaxies.
