IAA Severo Ochoa Meeting: Addressing Key Astrophysical Questions from Granada

The Institute of Astrophysics of Andalusia (IAA-CSIC) organizes a meeting with specialists from all over the world on the most current problems in astrophysics

From 18th to 21st October, a scientific meeting organised by the Institute of Astrophysics of Andalusia (IAA-CSIC) will be held at the Parque de las Ciencias, which will deal with key issues in different fields of astrophysics. The conference, developed from the IAA's Severo Ochoa colloquium programme, will bring together specialists from all over the world in various fields of astrophysics.

“Our Severo Ochoa IAA Colloquium programme was implemented in 2019 to allow senior staff from top institutions to visit the IAA to give talks and work hands-on with the centre's scientific teams -says Isabel Márquez, director of the IAA's Severo Ochoa project-. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we were forced to develop the sessions online, but, aware of the importance of interactions beyond the screen, we have organized this meeting to promote face-to-face discussion and debate”.

The morning sessions, which have been organized around individual conferences, will address the understanding of planetary systems, star formation in the Milky Way and the Local Universe, the formation and evolution of galaxies, and state-of-the-art instrumentation and methodologies. The afternoon sessions will be devoted to in-depth discussions and interactions between the presenters and the scientific staff of the IAA: the morning sessions will be followed up with the aim of identifying issues that can be addressed in collaboration with the IAA community in the coming years.

The congress will close with a talk by Professor José Cernicharo, recent winner of the Blas Cabrera 2022 National Research Award in the area of Physical, Materials and Earth Sciences.
