The visit to the IAA-CSIC by the External Scientific Sdvisory Board, a panel of international experts appointed by the presidency of the CSIC to guarantee the excellence of the research and technological development carried out at the Institute of Astrophysics of Andalusia (IAA-CSIC), began today. Chaired by Silvia Torres Peimbert, a researcher at UNAM (Mexico) and president of the International Astronomical Union (IAU), the Board will have in-depth knowledge of the work carried out at the IAA and will prepare a report on the centre's performance.
The visit, which will take place until February 26, will include presentations on the IAA and the Severo Ochoa scientific project, as well as on the different departments, lines of research and the Technological Development Unit. There will also be presentations about Calar Alto Observatory (scientifically managed by the IAA), about the equality policy and the communication and outreach work of the IAA. A poster session with recent outstanding results and interviews with the different groups of the centre will complete the visit of the Board.
The meeting will be attended by Cristina Espa, Representative of the AEI (Spanish Research Agency) in the Severo Ochoa programme.
