Chandra observations of the SMC have resulted in the first detection of X-ray emission from young stars with masses similar to our Sun outside our Milky Way galaxy

This is an ideal region to study life cicle of stars. It's an area with low metal content (elements heavier than hydrogen and helium) and lower proportion of gas, dust and stars than others in the Milky Way.
